GX is designed for growth. It handles thousands of doors, many distributed sites connected over the network and advanced permission profiles. If the investor plans phased expansion or consolidation of several facilities under one system, GX provides headroom without the need to migrate to another platform. It is worth estimating the target number of doors not for today but several years ahead, because it is the scale of growth that most often settles the choice.

GX offers broader integration capabilities: advanced automation rules, integration with CCTV and intrusion systems, lift control, schedules and detailed event reporting. It is a tool for the integrator who builds a security ecosystem rather than mere entrance control.

WX requires no server licences or operator-seat fees, which lowers the entry threshold and running cost in small facilities. GX relies on a licensing model where you pay for features and scale, but in return you gain flexibility and capabilities unavailable in WX. When planning a budget, calculate the total cost of ownership over several years, not just the hardware price at the start - including the cost of the server, its maintenance and any updates.
Shared hardware family and migration path
A key advantage of the ICT platform is the shared family of controllers, readers and expansion modules used by both software editions. As a result, the investment in the hardware layer is not permanently tied to one edition. A facility launched on WX can in the future move to management under GX, when the number of sites grows or integration requirements appear, without replacing the entire passage infrastructure. This is an important protection of the investment that closed, single-architecture systems lack.
Which system to choose - recommendation by scenario
If there is a single facility with a handful or a dozen doors and the priority is simple administration without a server, choose Protege WX. If, on the other hand, you plan expansion, multiple sites, CCTV and intrusion integration and advanced reporting, go for Protege GX from the Protege GX category. Because both editions use the same hardware family, moving up a level in the future does not mean replacing the entire infrastructure.
