Protege GX software has gained a new, expanded VMS integration with Milestone XProtect. This integration enables operators to introduce a unified ICT solution for access control, security and building automation into Milestone XProtect.
The integration between Protege GX and Milestone XProtect enables camera control and live and historical video playback from a single, easy-to-use interface.
Two integration options are available, each with a different architecture and set of capabilities.
Option A: Protege GX Milestone integration service
Protege GX communicates with the VMS server via a video service. This service monitors both systems, sends camera commands from Protege GX to the VMS server and continuously streams all events triggered in the VMS system to Protege GX.
Operators use Protege GX as the primary user interface.
- Supported features:
- Live video from configured cameras
- Display of historical and archived video recordings
- Embedding cameras on the status page
- Linking a camera to a door, input, output or area
- Live or archived video playback directly from a camera-linked event
- Automatic camera view window on specified event types
- Sending preset PTZ commands to the VMS in response to a Protege GX event filter
- Sensor alarm previews, unknown alarms, low disk space or detected HLI events displayed directly in Protege GX
Option B: Bidirectional Protege GX Milestone XProtect integration
A plug-in installed on the XProtect event server communicates with the Protege GX SOAP service and web client to retrieve information from Protege GX and display it in XProtect Smart Client. It also sends commands back to Protege GX based on operator actions such as locking/unlocking doors and acknowledging alarms.
Operators use XProtect Smart Client as the primary user interface.
Supported features:
- Display of door, controller, area and other device status in XProtect
- Live monitoring and archived door recordings
- Using manual commands to lock, unlock and lock doors, arm and disarm areas, and switch outputs on and off
- Adding Protege GX doors and other records to XProtect maps, creating a unified view of the entire building
- Monitoring and reporting of access control and intrusion events in XProtect, with archived camera footage for each event
- Configuring custom alarms in XProtect based on Protege GX events
- Acknowledging an alarm in XProtect or Protege GX also acknowledges it in the other application, preventing duplicate handling
- Access request notifications with camera recordings whenever a user is denied access to a door, enabling operators to assess the situation and remotely unlock the door
- Viewing Protege GX user records and photographs in XProtect Smart Client
